How to use a Custom Domain Name with Uscreen

What's your plan?

The recommendation for setting up your custom domain with Uscreen will depend on your situation.

Which of these 3 situations best describes yours?

Situation 1. Only the root domain will point to my Uscreen site - example: mydomain.com

Situation 2. Both my root domain and a www subdomain will point to my Uscreen site - example: mydomain.com AND www.mydomain.com

Situation 3. Only a specific subdomain will point to my Uscreen site - example: videos.mydomain.com

If your situation falls outside of these 3, please contact support@uscreen.tv and let us know your situation so we can best assist.

Carefully follow each step based on your situation --

Situation 1

Step 1. You'll edit your A record within your Domain Registrar service to point to our server at 159.203.146.41

Step 2. Use a DNS checker to ensure your A record is correctly pointing to the server address above. Here's a dns check you can use - https://dnschecker.org/#A/

Step 3. Please note, it can take up to 48 hours for changes like this to fully propagate. If your domain has not resolved within 48 hours, please contact your Domain Registrar support. Once your domain change has resolved, please contact support@uscreen.tv and let us know the following:  tell us your domain name that is pointed to our server, and that you'd like the SSL Certificate installed.

We'll respond as soon as possible. If you do not contact Uscreen's support team for this next step you will have security warnings appear on your site and the checkout process will not work.

Step 4. Add your domain to your settings in Uscreen site (see the next section below for steps on how to do this).

Situation 2

Step 1. You'll edit your A record within your Domain Registrar service to point to our server at 159.203.146.41

Step 2. You'll create a second A record within your Domain Registrar for www and also point that to our server at 159.203.146.41

Step 3. Please make sure you have deleted any CNAME record for www to avoid any conflict

Step 4. Use a DNS checker to ensure both of your A records are correctly pointing to the server address above. Here's a dns check you can use - https://dnschecker.org/#A/

Step 5. Please note, it can take up to 48 hours for changes like this to fully propagate. If your changes have not resolved within 48 hours, please contact your Domain Registrar support. Once your domain change have resolved, please contact support@uscreen.tv and let us know the following:  provide both of your domain names that are pointed to our server, and that you'd like the SSL Certificate installed.

We'll respond as soon as possible. If you do not contact Uscreen's support team for this next step you will have security warnings appear on your site and the checkout process will not work.

Step 6. Add your root domain to your Uscreen site see the next section below for steps on how to do this). We will take care of forwarding your www domain to your root domain.

Situation 3

Step 1. If you do not have this subdomain created, you'll need to create it. We have included some general instructions below for how to do this. If your subdomain is created, then you'll edit it to point to dns.uscreen.io (this must be exact, please do not try to point it to yoursitename.uscreen.io as this is not correct).

Step 2. Please make sure you do not have any other CNAME record setup for this particular subdomain to avoid any conflict

Step 3. Use a DNS checker to ensure your CNAME record is correctly pointing to dns.uscreen.io. Here's a dns check you can use -https://dnschecker.org/#CNAME/

Step 4. Please note, it can take up to 48 hours for changes like this to fully propagate. If your CNAME record has not resolved within 48 hours, please contact your Domain Registrar support. Once your record change has resolved, please contact support@uscreen.tv and let us know the following:  your subdomain name that is pointed to our server, and that you'd like the SSL Certificate installed.

We'll respond as soon as possible. If you do not contact Uscreen's support team for this next step you will have security warnings appear on your site and the checkout process will not work.

Step 5. Add your subdomain to your settings in Uscreen site (see the next section below for steps on how to do this).

How to create a CNAME record

Setting up a custom domain requires editing some settings with your domain registrar service. Below we provide GoDaddy as an example.  The process of setting up a custom domain is similar across the different providers.

NOTE: You can also create subdomains like: videos.mydomain.com, classes.mydomain.com., lessons.mydomain.com, tv.mydomain.com, etc.. In our example we will use 'videos' .

-Open your GoDaddy account to Domains list. Select the desired domain from the list you would like to edit and click on DNS.

Commonly Asked Questions

1. Why am I getting a security warning on my site?

You do not have an SSL Certificate installed on your domain yet. Please
contact Uscreen's support with your Uscreen site name and custom domain
to have your SSL Certificate installed.

2. I've created a CNAME record for my custom domain, but I don't see the dns checker website pointing to dns.uscreen.io.

There could be a couple of reasons for this.

Firstly, make sure you are not using Cloudflare's proxy servers
for your domain. Cloudflare is not compatible with Uscreen's platform.
You can read more about this, here.

Secondly, you may have domain record conflicts. Please ensure that you
do not have multiple records created for the same host (or subdomain).

If neither of the above is the issue, please contact your domain registrar
for assistance in resolving the matter.

3. My site won't load and says "too many redirects".

You have a loop of redirects happening. Please verify your forwarding and the IP address (or 'Points to') for all of your relevant domain records. Your root domain and subdomain(s) should not point to each other. The domain that you are using with Uscreen should be pointing to Uscreen's server, or dns.uscreen.io.

4. Can I use Uscreen just for my videos and link my Uscreen site to another website?

Yes! Learn more about linking to another website and having Uscreen be your video site here.
