Split the checkout name field into two field using Zapier for future reference

Updated over a week ago

Utilizing Zapier and the Formatter’s Text transform, the name field from the checkout workflow can be split into separate name fields via triggers.

This is helpful when you want to store the first and last names of your new users for mail merge templates or other templates that are dependent on two separate names (first and last). Note: the Uscreen checkout Name field does not require the input of two names to make signup a breeze (less fields to fill out!), but in many instances, users will input both names voluntarily.

Setup a Zapier Trigger to Split the Name Field for New Uscreen Customers

In the Zap editor, click the Action step, or click the plus (+) icon to add a step to your Zap.

Select Format. Click the Action Event dropdown menu and select Text.

Click Continue.

In the Set up action section, click the Transform dropdown menu and select the Split Text transform

In the Values section, click the Input field and choose the name field.

In the example, I split “John Doe” into separate fields using a space in the Separator field. A special character [:space:] can also be used.

The next step is to select All (as Separate Fields) from the Segment Index dropdown menu.

Click Continue and Click Test & Review.

If the test was successful, you'll see the results of the text transform. It should return two items John and Doe.

Once you've set up the Formatter Text transform, you can use the results in further actions in your Zap.

If you'd like to watch a video demonstration of this, you're in luck!
