Accepting SEPA Payments through Stripe

Learn about accepting SEPA payments through Stripe and its limitations

Updated over 10 months ago

Welcome to our guide on SEPA payments! If you're considering using SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) as a payment method on Uscreen, it's important to understand how it works, especially since it's integrated through Stripe. Here's what you need to know:

SEPA Integration through Stripe

SEPA payments are exclusively available through our Stripe integration. This seamless integration allows you to make transactions within the SEPA zone efficiently.

Payment Approval Time - Delays

A key aspect of SEPA payments is the processing time. It can take up to 14 days for payment approval. This duration is dictated by SEPA's regulations and is not specific to Uscreen. The time for processing is particularly long for businesses located outside of Europe.

Access to Content During Processing

While an end-user's SEPA payment is processing, access to the content will be temporarily restricted. This is a standard procedure for SEPA transactions to ensure payment security and compliance. It also makes sure that your content is secure. Locking end-users out during this period ensures that their payment clears before accessing and consuming your content.

Handling Processing Payments

If your end-user has a payment that's currently processing through SEPA and Stripe, we'll display a notification to inform them about it. During this time, they won't be able to attempt and sign up again to prevent duplicate charges.

Enabling SEPA as a Payment Method

By default, SEPA as a payment method is disabled. If you would like to allow the usage of SEPA as a payment method on your checkout page, please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to your Stripe account

  2. Click on Settings at the top right of your account dashboard

  3. Click on Payment Methods under Payments

  4. Select your Platform > Uscreen

  5. You will notice your payment methods load below.

  6. Scroll down to Bank debits

  7. Click on SEPA Direct Debit

  8. Click on Turn On

SEPA payments will now be available to prospective customers who live in the EU.

Reminder: There will be payment and access delays for payments processed with SEPA.

Disabling SEPA as a Payment Method

Should the processing time or any other aspect of SEPA payments not align with your needs, you have the option to disable SEPA as a payment method in your Stripe account. This will prevent future end-users from signing up for your store using SEPA.

To disable SEPA follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Log in to your Stripe account

  2. Click on Settings at the top right of your account dashboard

  3. Click on Payment Methods under Payments

  4. Select your Platform > Uscreen

    1. You will notice your payment methods load below.

  5. Scroll down to Bank debits

  6. Click on SEPA Direct Debit

  7. Click on Turn off.
