Most streaming problems have simple fixes that take just a few minutes.
This guide walks you through the most common issues encountered when live streaming, whether you're using Uscreen Live Studio, OBS, Zoom, mobile apps, or other RTMP tools.
Universal Issues (All Streaming Methods)
My stream won't connect/"Stream is currently not active"
Likely Reason:
Uscreen isn't receiving a signal from your streaming source.
Quick Fixes:
For All Streaming Methods:
Check your internet connection: Run a speed test at speedtest.net. You need at least 5 Mbps upload for streaming
Verify your live event is Published in Uscreen
Try disabling your VPN temporarily: some VPNs block streaming connections
Check firewall settings: corporate networks may block streaming ports
For RTMP Tools (OBS, StreamYard, Wirecast, etc.):
Make sure you clicked "Start Streaming" in your software (not just "Start Recording")
Re-copy your Stream URL and Stream Key from Uscreen: paste them fresh, instead of retyping manually
Verify the Stream URL and Stream Key are correct and in separate fields: don't paste the full URL with key appended into the URL field
For Uscreen Live Studio:
Check browser permissions: your browser needs access to the camera and microphone
Refresh the page and try again
Try a different browser (Chrome or Edge recommended)
For Zoom:
Make sure your Zoom meeting is already started before clicking "Start Live Stream" in Uscreen
Verify your Zoom link format is correct: should be
https://zoom.us/j/[meeting-id]orhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/[meeting-id]For RTMP method: Disable "Require authentication to join" in Zoom meeting settings
π‘ TIP: Always start streaming in your software 30-60 seconds before clicking "Start Live Stream" in Uscreen to ensure a smooth connection.
Stream is buffering/laggy for viewers
Likely Reason:
Your internet connection may be too slow or unstable for your stream settings.
Quick Fixes:
Run a speed test at speedtest.net: check your upload speed (not download)
You need at least 5 Mbps upload for HD streaming
If your upload is below 5 Mbps, your internet is too slow
Switch to a wired Ethernet connection if you're on Wi-Fi. This is the most reliable fix for buffering
Close other apps and browser tabs, especially cloud sync (Dropbox, Google Drive), video calls, or downloads
Check if other devices are using your network: pause downloads, streaming, or gaming on other devices
For RTMP Tools (OBS, StreamYard, etc.):
Lower your bitrate:
For 720p (1280x720): Set bitrate to 3500 kbps
For 1080p (1920x1080): Set bitrate to 5000 kbps
Your upload speed should be at least 1.5x your bitrate: if your upload is 6 Mbps, avoid streaming above 4000 kbps
Check for dropped frames in your software's status bar
For Uscreen Live Studio:
Live Studio automatically adjusts quality based on your connection
If buffering persists, your internet may not be fast enough
For Mobile:
Switch to Wi-Fi instead of cellular data
Close background apps to free up bandwidth
Restart your device before streaming
βΉοΈ INFO: Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi for stable streaming. Wi-Fi is the most common cause of buffering and disconnections.
Video quality is poor/pixelated/blurry
Likely Reason:
Your stream settings are too low for good quality, or your lighting/camera setup needs improvement.
Quick Fixes:
Improve your lighting: poor lighting makes the video look worse. Light your stream subject from the front (not from behind)
Check your internet speed: if your upload is below 5 Mbps, your stream can struggle in HD quality
Make sure your camera is clean: wipe the lens with a soft cloth
Position your camera properly: eye level, well-lit, stable surface
For RTMP Tools (OBS, StreamYard, etc.):
Check your bitrate settings:
For 720p (1280x720): Set bitrate to 3500 or higher
For 1080p (1920x1080): Set bitrate to 5000 or higher
Verify your resolution settings match your camera capabilities
Check your encoder settings: use H.264 codec
For Uscreen Live Studio:
Live Studio streams at 1080p, 30 FPS, 4500 bitrate automatically
Focus on lighting and camera quality
For Mobile:
Most mobile apps stream below 720p automatically
Ensure good lighting and a stable camera position
π‘ TIP: If your internet is slow, it's better to stream at 720p with good quality than 1080p with poor quality. Your viewers will thank you!
No audio/Viewers can't hear the presenter
Likely Reason:
The microphone may not be set up correctly or may be muted.
Quick Fixes:
For All Methods:
Check that your microphone isn't muted: both in your streaming software AND your computer's system settings
Test your microphone: speak and watch for audio level indicators
Close other applications that might be using your microphone (Zoom, Skype, etc.)
If using Bluetooth headphones/mic: Switch to a wired connection. Bluetooth microphone can be unreliable for streaming
For Uscreen Live Studio:
Check the microphone icon below the player: it may be turned off by default. Click to unmute
Grant microphone permissions to your browser (check the lock icon in the address bar)
On Mac: Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone > check the box next to your browser
Select your specific microphone in Live Studio settings (don't use "Default")
For RTMP Tools (OBS, etc.):
Check the Audio Mixer: when you speak, do you see the green bars moving?
Go to Settings > Audio: select your specific microphone by name (don't use "Default")
If using a USB microphone: Unplug it, plug it back in, then reselect it in settings
For Mobile:
Check app permissions: Settings > Apps > [Your App] > Permissions > Microphone
Restart the app completely
Test with a different microphone (wired headset)
π‘ TIP: Make sure your microphone isn't muted in both your streaming software AND your computer's system settings. This is the most common audio mistake!
Audio is out of sync with the video
Likely Reason:
There's a delay between your voice and your video.
Quick Fixes:
If using Bluetooth audio: Switch to a wired microphone/headset. Bluetooth often causes sync issues
Restart your streaming software and stream: sometimes this fixes sync problems
If using an external audio device: Make sure it's plugged in securely
Close other programs that might be using your microphone
Check your encoder settings (for RTMP tools): keyframe interval should be 2 seconds
π‘ TIP: Use wired devices as much as possible. Bluetooth audio equipment introduces latency that causes sync issues, so it's better to use wired audio for live streaming.
Stream disconnected mid-event
Likely Reason:
Your internet connection dropped temporarily.
Quick Fixes:
Don't panic, the viewers will see a brief interruption, but you can reconnect
In your streaming software: Click "Stop Streaming" then "Start Streaming" again
Wait 30-60 seconds for the connection to come back
Check your Uscreen test player to confirm you're back online
If it keeps happening: Switch to Ethernet if on Wi-Fi, or restart your router
π NOTE: When you're done streaming, stop the stream in BOTH your streaming software and Uscreen. If you only stop one, the system may continue creating recording fragments.
Uscreen Live Studio Troubleshooting
Camera or microphone not working
Issue:
Browser can't access your camera or microphone.
Quick Fixes:
Grant browser permissions:
Click the lock or camera icon in your browser's address bar
Set Camera and Microphone to "Allow"
Refresh the page
Grant operating system permissions:
Windows: Settings > Privacy > Camera/Microphone > allow your browser
Mac: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera/Microphone > check your browser
Check for conflicting applications:
Close Zoom, Skype, or other apps using your camera/mic
Only one app can use your camera at a time
Try these troubleshooting steps:
Restart your browser completely
Try Incognito/Private mode to rule out browser extensions
Update your browser to the latest version
Check antivirus/firewall settings
π‘ TIP: If you don't see the permission prompt, it may have been previously denied. Click the lock icon in the address bar and reset permissions.

OBS Studio Troubleshooting
Stream won't connect in OBS
Issue:
OBS shows "Disconnected" or won't connect to Uscreen.
Solutions:
Verify you clicked "Start Streaming" (not "Start Recording")
Check Service is set to "Custom" in Settings > Stream
Re-copy Stream URL and Stream Key from Uscreen > paste fresh, don't retype
Check your firewall/VPN > some block RTMP (commonly, port 1935)
Verify your live event is Published in Uscreen
Viewers see a black screen (OBS connected)
Issue:
OBS shows connected, but viewers see a black screen.
Solutions:
Check your Sources panel whether there is a red eye icon (ποΈ) next to the video source. Click it to unhide
Make sure the correct scene is selected in OBS
Can you see your video in the OBS preview?
If yes, re-copy your stream key from Uscreen
If no, remove and re-add your video source
On Mac, using Display/Window Capture: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording > check OBS, then restart OBS
"Your computer can't keep up" / Encoding overloaded
Problem:
OBS shows encoding errors or dropped frames.
Solutions:
Lower your resolution: Settings > Video > Output Resolution > 1280x720
Lower your frame rate: Settings > Video > Common FPS Values > 30
Lower your bitrate: Settings > Output > Video Bitrate > 3500
Close other programs, especially games, video editors, or resource-intensive apps
Restart your computer before streaming to clear memory
Zoom Streaming Troubleshooting
Uscreen supports two methods for streaming Zoom meetings:
Gated Zoom Links (easier method, just paste your Zoom meeting link)
RTMP streaming (advanced method, requires Zoom Pro/Business account)
"Invalid Zoom link" error
Issue:
Uscreen shows "Invalid Zoom link" when you try to start streaming.
Solutions:
Check your Zoom link format. It should look like:
NOT a personal meeting room link
NOT a link with extra parameters or tracking codes
Make sure your Zoom meeting is already started before clicking "Start Live Stream" in Uscreen
For recurring meetings: Use the specific meeting instance link, not the generic recurring meeting link
Remove any extra parameters from the URL and only use the base meeting URL
Zoom stream shows "Waiting for host" or login screen
Issue:
Viewers see a waiting room or login prompt instead of your meeting.
Solutions:
Start your Zoom meeting first before starting the stream in Uscreen
Disable "Require authentication to join" in your Zoom meeting settings
Disable the waiting room for this meeting (or admit the Uscreen bot when it joins)
For RTMP method: Make sure you've enabled "Allow live streaming meetings" in your Zoom account settings
Zoom RTMP streaming issues
Issue:
Can't find a live streaming option in Zoom, or the stream won't connect.
Solutions:
Verify you have Zoom Pro, Business, or Enterprise. RTMP streaming requires a paid account
Enable live streaming in Zoom account settings:
Sign in to zoom.us
Go to Settings > In Meeting (Advanced)
Enable "Allow live streaming meetings"
Check "Custom Live Streaming Service"
In your Zoom meeting:
Click "More" > "Live on Custom Live Streaming Service"
Paste your Uscreen Stream URL and Stream Key
Click "Go Live"
Make sure you're the meeting host. Only hosts can start live streaming
Zoom audio/video quality issues
Issue:
Zoom stream looks or sounds poor on Uscreen.
Solutions:
Enable HD video in Zoom:
Zoom Settings β Video β Enable HD
Requires good internet connection (at least 3 Mbps upload)
Enable "Original Sound" in Zoom for better audio quality (especially for music)
Check your Zoom video settings β make sure "Touch up my appearance" and heavy filters are disabled
Close other applications to free up bandwidth
Mobile Streaming Troubleshooting
App won't connect to the stream
Issue:
Mobile app shows a connection error or won't start streaming.
Solutions:
Check app permissions:
iOS: Settings > [Your App] > Camera/Microphone > Enable
Android: Settings > Apps > [Your App] > Permissions > Camera/Microphone > Allow
Make sure you're on Wi-Fi. Cellular data may not be fast enough
Restart the app completely (force close and reopen)
Update the app to the latest version
Restart your device before streaming
Poor quality on the mobile stream
Issue:
Mobile stream looks pixelated or laggy.
Solutions:
Switch to Wi-Fi instead of cellular data. Cellular is often too slow or unstable
Improve your lighting. Mobile cameras need good light to look sharp
Clean your camera lens with a soft cloth
Close background apps to free up processing power
Keep your phone plugged in. Low battery can reduce performance
Mobile stream keeps disconnecting
Issue:
Stream drops frequently on mobile.
Solutions:
Use Wi-Fi instead of cellular data. Cellular connections are less stable
Stay close to your Wi-Fi router for a stronger signal
Disable battery saver mode, as it can throttle network performance
Close all background apps before streaming
Restart your device to clear memory
Camera/microphone not working on mobile
Issue:
Black screen or no audio on mobile stream.
Solutions:
Grant app permissions (see "App won't connect" above)
Close other apps that might be using the camera/mic (Instagram, TikTok, etc.)
Restart the app completely
Check if the camera/mic works in other apps, and if not, restart your device
Try switching between the front/rear cameras in the app
π‘ TIP: Always test your mobile stream setup before going live. Mobile streaming is more prone to issues than desktop streaming.
Other RTMP Tools (StreamYard, Wirecast, etc.)
Most RTMP streaming tools work similarly to OBS, such as StreamYard, Wirecast, vMix, Restream, or other RTMP tools.
Stream won't connect:
Verify you're using "Custom RTMP" (not YouTube, Facebook, etc.)
Re-copy the Stream URL and Key from Uscreen and paste them again
Check that the URL and Key are in separate fields and not combined
Disable VPN/firewall temporarily to test
Make sure your live event is Published in Uscreen
Connected, but viewers see a black screen:
Check your software's preview
Verify the correct scene/source is selected
Re-copy your Stream Key from Uscreen and paste it fresh
Restart your streaming software and try again
Poor quality or buffering:
Lower your bitrate to 3500-5000 kbps
Use 720p resolution instead of 1080p
Set frame rate to 30 FPS
Switch to Ethernet if on Wi-Fi
Close other applications using bandwidth
π‘ TIP: If your RTMP stream isn't working, 90% of the time it's one of three things: wrong URL/Key, firewall blocking port 1935, or the internet is too slow or unstable. These are the things to check.
Live Chat Troubleshooting
Chat not appearing for viewers
Issue:
Viewers don't see the live chat on the stream page.
Solutions:
Verify chat is enabled in your live event settings
Check if viewers are logged in
Try a different browser. Some browser extensions can block chat widgets
Disable ad blockers. They sometimes block chat features
Refresh the page and check again
Can't send messages in chat
Issue:
Chat appears, but messages won't send.
Solutions:
Make sure you're logged in to your Uscreen account
Check your internet connection, as the feature requires an active connection
Refresh the page and try again
Try a different browser or incognito mode
Disable browser extensions that might interfere
Chat messages delayed
Issue:
Chat messages appear several seconds late.
Solutions:
This is normal. The live chat typically has a 5-10 second delay
Check your internet connection. Slow connection increases the delay
Refresh the page to reset the connection
If delay is extreme (30+ seconds): Contact support
Inappropriate messages in chat
Issue:
Need to moderate or remove messages.
Solutions:
Assign moderators in your live event settings
