Why Segment Your Customers?

Distinguishing between customers who are exploring your offerings and those who have made a purchase helps you create personalized and effective communication strategies. With Mailchimp and two Zaps, you can automate this process seamlessly.

Step 1: Set Up an Audience for Unpaid Customers

Trigger: Use the Uscreen New Customer event in your first Zap.
Action: Set the Mailchimp action to Add/Update Subscriber and assign new customers to an Unpaid Customer audience.

Result: All customers who sign up will automatically be added to the Unpaid Customer audience in Mailchimp.

Step 2: Move Paid Customers to a Separate Audience

Trigger: Use the Uscreen Paid Order event in your second Zap.
Action: Set the Mailchimp action to Add/Update Subscriber and update the audience for paying customers to the Paid Customer audience.

Result: When a customer makes a purchase, they’ll be moved from the Unpaid Customer audience to the Paid Customer audience.

Tip: Avoid Overlapping Emails 📧

Customers might briefly remain in the Unpaid Customer audience before completing a purchase. To avoid sending conflicting emails:

  • Add a delay to Mailchimp emails for the Unpaid Customer audience.

  • This ensures new customers don’t receive an email immediately upon signup followed by another email when they make a purchase.

Step 3: Handle Cancelled Subscriptions

Trigger: Use the Uscreen Canceled Subscription event.
Action: Update the audience for canceled subscribers, or create a Canceled Subscriber audience in Mailchimp.

🎯 Why this matters: Sending re-engagement emails to canceled subscribers can help you win them back!

  • Tailor emails for canceled subscribers to highlight benefits, new offerings, or discounts.

Summary

Using these three Zaps, you can effectively:

  • Add new customers to the Unpaid Customer audience.

  • Update paying customers to the Paid Customer audience.

  • Track cancellations and target canceled subscribers with re-engagement campaigns.
