Duplicate a Live Stream

Create consistent live programming without starting from scratch every time

Updated yesterday

Scheduling multiple live events just got easier! Instead of creating each event individually, you can duplicate existing live events to save time and maintain consistency.

Live stream duplication allows you to copy an existing live stream with all its settings, making it easy to create recurring events or series without manually re-entering information each time.

This feature is especially useful for creators who host regular live sessions, such as weekly fitness classes, coaching calls, or educational workshops.

💡 TIP: You can duplicate both upcoming and finished live streams. This is particularly useful for creating recurring events based on past successful streams.

How to Duplicate a Live Stream

  1. Navigate to Content > Live Streaming

  2. Find the live stream you want to duplicate

  3. Click the ellipsis (...) next to the event

  4. Select Duplicate from the dropdown menu

  5. On the duplication setup page, you'll need to configure:

    • Event Title: By default, it will add "(Duplicate)" to the original title

    • Event Start Date: Set the date and time for your new event

    • URL Handle: The unique identifier for your event in the URL

    • Stream Key Option: Choose whether to reuse the existing stream key or generate a new one

    • Click Duplicate

What Gets Duplicated

When you duplicate a live stream, the following elements are copied to the new event:

  • Basic information (title, descriptions, SEO settings)

  • Appearance settings (thumbnails, authors)

  • Access settings

  • Pricing options (subscription plans, one-time purchase settings)

  • Category assignments

  • Chat and donation settings

  • Stream key (if you choose to reuse it)

📝 NOTE: When duplicating a live stream, all pricing options (including assigned subscriptions, bundles, etc.) will be carried over to the new event.

Stream Key Considerations

When duplicating a live stream, you have two options for handling the stream key:

Option 1: Reuse the Existing Stream Key

This is convenient for recurring events as you won't need to update your streaming software settings.

To reuse the stream key:

  • Toggle the Reuse existing Stream Key option when duplicating

  • Ensure events using the same key are scheduled at least 5 minutes apart

⚠️ WARNING: Only one live stream can run with a given stream key at a time. You must end one live stream before starting the next one if they share the same stream key.

Option 2: Generate a New Stream Key

This allows you to run multiple live streams simultaneously.

To use a new stream key:

  • Leave the Reuse existing Stream Key option unchecked

  • You'll need to update your streaming software with the new key before going live

💡 TIP: If you plan to run simultaneous live streams, you'll need separate devices or separate instances of your streaming software for each event.

Editing Your Duplicated Stream

After creating your duplicate stream, you may want to make additional changes.

  1. Find your newly created stream in the Live Streaming list

  2. Click Edit to open the event settings

  3. Make any necessary adjustments to:

    • Event details

    • Appearance

    • Pricing

    • SEO settings

    • Stream settings

  4. Click Save Changes

FAQs

Can I run multiple live events at the same time?

Yes, but each event must use a unique stream key. You'll also need separate devices or separate instances of your streaming software for each simultaneous event.

What happens if I try to start a live event when another event with the same stream key is already live?

You'll receive an error message. Only one live event can run with a given stream key at a time.

Will preregistered attendees be transferred when I duplicate an event?

No, preregistrations are not carried over to the duplicate event. You'll need to export the attendee list from the original event and notify them about the new event.

Why does my duplicated event show a blank page?

This can sometimes occur. If you encounter a blank page after clicking Duplicate, simply refresh the page to load the duplication settings.

Will the recording from the original event appear in my duplicated event?

No, recordings are specific to each event. However, if you're using the same stream key, be aware that the original event's recording might briefly appear when testing the player before going live with the duplicate event.
