Customize Mobile Tabs Titles, Icons, Order

Updated yesterday

This feature is coming to the mobile apps in December 2025

You can customize the tab titles, icons, and order in your iOS and Android mobile apps. This gives you greater control over your app’s brand and identity, making it truly yours.

  • Rename tab titles to match your audiences' language

  • Reorder tabs to fit your ideal member journey

  • Choose from a library of pre-designed icons

  • Preview and save your layout

✨ This lives in the Admin under Mobile & TV Apps > Customization
🔁 Changes take effect immediately in your app (just exit and restart)
✅ No app store update or resubmission required

Why Customize Tabs?

Your mobile app is a direct extension of your brand. With default tabs like “Browse,” “Community,” and “Calendar,” every app starts the same. But now, you can make it unique and aligned with your content and audience.

Examples:

  • Change the icon for “Browse” to something more brand-appropriate

  • Rename "Browse" to "Videos"

  • Rename “Calendar” to “Schedule”

  • Move “Community” to a different position

Limitations ❌ (What You Can’t Customize…)

  • Uploading your own icons

  • Changing tab colors (they use your brand color)

  • Adding new tabs (e.g., a Shop or Blog – that’s coming soon!)

  • Changing visibility of tabs (based on plan, user, etc.)

  • Applying different layouts to different user types

  • Rearranging sections inside tabs (like the order of favorites, downloads, notes)

  • Translations for custom tab titles (defaults will translate, custom titles won't)

Coming Later

This is the groundwork for future mobile customization enhancements, like:

  • External website tab. Yes! adding a tab for an external website, merch store, blog, etc. is coming later.

Best Practices

  • Keep it short. Long tab titles will be truncated.

  • Be consistent. Match your brand tone across tabs.

  • Use icons wisely. Pick icons that clearly represent the tab’s function.

  • Default tab. Think about what makes the best first impression when a member opens your app. Uscreen recommends the catalog.

  • Keep it clear. Ensure your tabs make sense. App stores will reject apps that are unclear or confusing.

FAQs

Do I need to update my app in the App Store?
Nope! Changes take effect automatically in your live apps.

Can I remove tabs completely?
Not yet. Visibility is tied to enabled features (e.g., Community, Calendar). We may support more visibility controls in the future.

Can I upload my own icons?
Not in this version. We provide a high-quality icon library to ensure consistency across devices.

Will custom tab titles be translated?
Only default titles are translated. If you customize a tab title, it will show the same customized title for all members, regardless of the user's language settings.
