One-Click Upgrade Campaigns with Coupons

Use Coupon Share Link to turn any coupon into a ready-to-share upgrade offer

Generate a single link that opens the upgrade flow for your existing members with the coupon already applied, with no manual code entry and no rebuilding URLs by hand.

Drop it into any campaign your members already see, and they can upgrade in one click.

Why This Works

A one-click upgrade campaign removes the friction between offering a discount and a member completing the upgrade. When a member clicks your link:

  • The change membership modal opens automatically

  • The coupon is pre-applied, and proration is calculated for them

  • Their payment method is already on file from their existing subscription

The result is a near-frictionless upgrade experience, ideal for moving members from monthly to annual, or from a basic plan to a premium one.

ℹ️ INFO: This campaign type uses the new Share a Coupon Link feature. No additional setup or product configuration is required beyond creating a compatible coupon.

Before You Start

Your coupon must be configured to allow plan changes. If this option is not enabled, the Members link option will be disabled in the Share a Coupon Link modal.

To enable it:

  1. Navigate to Marketing > Coupons

  2. Click the ellipsis (...) next to your coupon and select Edit

  3. Enable Allow for plan changes

  4. Click Save

📝 NOTE: Before generating your link, make sure to select the target plan, the plan you want members to upgrade to. The member's current plan is detected automatically when they click the link.

Step 1: Generate Your Members Link

  1. From the Coupons page, click the ellipsis (...) next to the coupon you want to use

  2. Select Share Link

  3. In the modal:

    • Product: select the Subscription plan you want members to upgrade to

    • Choose Members as the audience

  4. Click Copy Link

Step 2: Share Your Link in a Campaign

The link is ready to drop into any channel your members already see. Common use cases:

  • Email broadcasts: pair the link with a short subject line and a clear call to action (e.g., "Switch to yearly today and save $25")

  • Automation emails: trigger the link to send based on member behavior (e.g., after 3 months on a monthly plan)

  • External SMS/Email campaigns: short, direct messages perform well for time-sensitive upgrade offers

  • Social media: use the link in posts, stories, or direct messages to your community

  • Landing pages: embed the link as a primary CTA button on a campaign-specific page

💡 TIP: Pair your Members link with a Leads link in the same campaign to capture both new sign-ups and existing-member upgrades from a single promotion.

What Members See

When a member clicks your link, they go directly to the Change Membership modal with:

  • The new plan pre-selected

  • The coupon already applied

  • Proration calculated based on their current plan

Because their payment method is already on file, completing the upgrade is effectively one click.

📝 NOTE: If a member closes the upgrade modal without completing the change, the coupon stays applied on the plans page. The discounted price displays with a strikethrough on the original, so the offer continues to nudge them whenever they revisit their account.

FAQs

Why is the Members option disabled for my coupon?

The coupon does not have Allow for plan changes enabled. Edit the coupon, enable the option, and save, and the Members link option will become available automatically.

Can I use the same coupon for both leads and existing members?

Yes. From the Share a Coupon Link modal, you can generate separate Leads and Members links from the same coupon. Use both in a single campaign to capture new sign-ups at checkout and existing-member upgrades through the change membership flow.

Does this work for downgrades, not just upgrades?

The Members link opens the change membership flow, which supports both upgrades and downgrades. However, the campaign use case is most effective for upgrades, since that's where the auto-apply discount and one-click experience drive the most value.

What happens if the coupon expires while my campaign is still live?

The link will no longer apply the discount once the coupon expires. Members clicking the link after expiration will still be taken to the change membership flow, but without the discount. Check your coupon's expiration date before launching a long-running campaign.

Can I track how many members upgraded through the link?

Yes, use the Coupons Report to see redemption volume for the coupon used in your campaign. 🔗 Learn more about the Coupons Report
