The search function on the Catalog page helps your customers quickly find content they're interested in. When a customer enters a search term, Uscreen searches through your videos and collections to find relevant matches.
Search Query
The search function looks for keywords in three specific places:
Video or Collection Title
Full Description text
Search Tags added to the content
Results will only be returned if the searched word is included in one of these three fields.
TIP: Ensure your content includes clear titles, thorough descriptions, and appropriate tags to enhance its visibility in searches.
Search Results Priority
Search results are displayed in a specific order based on where the search term appears:
Exact title matches (highest priority)
Partial title matches
Description matches
Tag matches (lowest priority)
Within each of these categories, more recent content (based on upload date) appears first.
Search Tags
Search tags are keywords or phrases that you add to your videos and collections to improve their discoverability in your Uscreen catalog.
Navigate to Content > Videos or Collections
Select the video or collection you want to edit
Scroll down to the SEO section
Add your tags in the Search Tags field, separating each with a comma
TIP: Each content can have multiple search tags. This helps optimize the search function and improve the search results. There is no hard limit to the number of search tags that can be added to a content.
Platform-Specific Search Behavior
Website
The website's search functionality interacts with Uscreen's main database, which contains the complete and most current dataset. This ensures that search results on the website are always accurate and comprehensive, but may take slightly longer to generate.
Works with as few as 1-2 characters
Provides comprehensive results from the main database
Supports all custom filters
Updates immediately when content changes
Mobile Apps (iOS and Android)
To optimize search speed and performance, mobile apps utilize queries directed at a local database stored on the user's device.
Requires at least 3 characters to activate search
Can handle multiple keywords as long as they appear in the video's title
Supports the same custom filters as the web version
May occasionally show slightly different results than the web version due to local database caching
TV Apps (Roku, Apple, Android, Fire TV)
TV apps offer a simplified search experience optimized for remote control navigation.
Supports text search across your content catalog
Includes category and custom filter support
Optimized interface for TV remote navigation
Roku apps can integrate with Roku Platform Search, allowing users to find your content through Roku's native search function
Search Limitations
The current search function has some limitations to be aware of:
Minimum character requirement: Mobile app search requires at least 3 characters to return results
Web vs. mobile differences: Search results may occasionally differ between the website and mobile apps due to different search methodologies
No partial word matching: The search doesn't support partial word matching or stemming
Single word search: The search doesn't support complex queries with multiple terms using AND/OR logic
Single language search: The search doesn't automatically translate terms across languages
No search analytics: Currently, Uscreen doesn't provide detailed analytics on what terms members are searching for
NOTE: If a customer applies a filter and then performs a search, the search will be conducted within that filtered view.
Optimizing Content for Search
To make your content more discoverable using the Catalog Search feature:
Use descriptive titles: Include relevant keywords in your video and collection titles
Write detailed descriptions: Add comprehensive descriptions with keywords your members might search for
Add search tags: Include alternative terms, common misspellings, or related concepts in the SEO tags section
Assign appropriate filters: Make sure all content has the right category, author, and custom filter values assigned
Consider mobile search limitations: Since mobile search requires 3+ characters, avoid very short titles or key terms
