Enable Download for Offline Viewing

Allow your members to watch your content anywhere, anytime, even without internet

Updated over a week ago

Give your members the flexibility to enjoy your content anywhere, even without an internet connection. Whether they're traveling, have limited data, or experience connectivity issues, offline viewing ensures they can access your videos whenever and wherever they need them.

Mobile App Downloads

If you have iOS or Android apps from Uscreen, your viewers can download videos for offline viewing within the app.

ℹ️ INFO: This feature is automatically enabled and provides a secure way for members to access content without an internet connection.

Key Benefits

  • Videos remain within your branded app environment

    • Not downloadable as MP4 files

  • Available for offline viewing for 30 days

    • Members can download the videos again anytime

  • Perfect for travel, flights, or areas with poor connectivity

  • Helps reduce buffering issues for members with unstable internet

Downloading Videos for Offline Viewing

To download a video in the mobile app, members simply:

  1. Open the app and log in

  2. Go to the desired video

  3. Below the player, scroll and tap Download

  4. Select the video quality

  5. Tap Download

💡 TIP: Encourage members to download videos while connected to a stable WiFi to save mobile data.

Members will see an alert showing the download progress and expiration date (30 days from download).

Accessing Downloaded Content

To view downloaded videos, members can:

  1. Open the app and log in

  2. Navigate to the More tab

  3. Go to Content > Downloads

  4. All of the downloaded videos will be listed on the Downloads page

Video Quality Options

The apps give members options to download videos at various qualities:

  • High Quality (720p): Better viewing experience, but uses more storage

  • Medium Quality (360p): Balanced option for most users

  • Low Quality (144p): Saves storage space and downloads faster

To adjust or set the default quality preference:

  1. Navigate to the More tab

  2. Go to General > Download Settings

Web Downloads (Not Recommended)

While mobile apps offer secure offline viewing, you also have the option to enable permanent MP4 downloads for web users.

However, we generally don't recommend this approach.

Important Considerations

  • Members receive the actual MP4 file, which they can keep indefinitely

  • These files can be shared outside your platform or redistributed

  • Our data shows that creators who enable web downloads typically experience higher membership cancellation rates

  • Once downloaded, you lose control over how your content is used

⚠️ WARNING: Making a video downloadable on the web means that the customer can permanently download a copy of your video file.

If you still want to enable web downloads for specific videos:

  1. Navigate to Content > Videos

  2. Find the specific video and Edit

  3. Scroll down to the Access card

  4. Click on Advanced Settings

  5. Toggle Download on Web

  6. Confirm that you want to make your video downloadable

ℹ️ INFO: The video will take about 30 minutes to process before becoming available for download on your Catalog.

Once processed, the Download option will appear by clicking the ellipsis (...) menu right next to the Share button.

📝 NOTE: We strongly recommend against allowing downloads on the web. Our data shows that creators who enable web downloads typically experience higher membership cancellation rates.
