Storefront Base Currency

Your store's currency foundation and how to manage it effectively

Updated today

Your base currency is the foundation of your Uscreen store's financial system. It determines how you price your offerings, process payments, and receive payouts. Once you've processed your first transaction, changing this currency becomes complex.

When you first set up your Uscreen store, you select a base currency that aligns with your business needs and target audience.

๐Ÿ“ NOTE: Your base currency is the primary currency for your store and affects all financial operations.

Recommended Alternative

Instead of changing your store's base currency, Localized Pricing is the recommended solution that allows you to:

  • Keep your existing base currency

  • Add up to 5 additional currencies

  • Show prices in visitors' local currencies based on their location

  • Increase conversions (customers report 7-10% revenue lift)

๐Ÿ’ก TIP: Localized Pricing is significantly simpler than changing your base currency because it won't disrupt existing subscribers, won't require manual data exports, and maintains your financial reporting stability. It automatically detects your new customers' locations to show the appropriate currency.

Before Changing the Base Currency

Communicate with your subscribers before making any changes to prepare them for the transition.

  • Inform subscribers about the upcoming currency change via email

  • Explain why the change is happening and how it will affect them

  • Let them know they'll need to update their payment information

  • Consider offering incentives (like a discount) to encourage them to re-subscribe

  • Set clear expectations about when the change will occur

Important Limitations

If you have active subscribers, the currency dropdown option in your settings will be grayed out and disabled, preventing you from making changes.

Payment processors like Stripe don't allow you to invoice a customer in one currency and then switch to another. This protects subscribers from unexpected currency changes on their bills.

โš ๏ธ WARNING: You cannot change your base currency if you have active subscribers. The system will prevent this change to protect ongoing subscription payments.

Changing the Base Currency

If you still need to change your base currency, you must first revoke all active subscriptions.

Step 1. Save Active Subscribers' Information

  • Go to your Subscription tab

  • Click the blue number under the Total column to see active users

  • Export a CSV file with users' names, emails, and next invoice dates

โ„น๏ธ INFO: This step creates a backup of all your subscriber data so you can restore their accounts after the currency change.

Step 2. Duplicate Your Subscriptions

  • Create new subscription plans with the same structure as your original ones

  • This preserves your existing structure before deletion

๐Ÿ’ก TIP: This preserves your subscription structure (pricing tiers, features, etc.) so you don't have to rebuild everything from scratch.

Step 3. Delete Original Subscriptions

  • Delete all subscriptions with active users

  • This removes the restriction preventing currency changes

๐Ÿ“ NOTE: This removes the restriction preventing currency changes by eliminating all active subscriptions. For stores with few subscribers, you can alternatively revoke subscriptions one by one.

Step 4. Change Your Store Currency

  • Navigate to Settings > General

  • Select your new currency from the dropdown menu

  • Click Save

โ„น๏ธ INFO: This is the actual currency change that updates your entire store to the new base currency.

Step 5. Re-add Your Subscribers

  • Manually add subscribers back to their appropriate plans

  • Set their next invoice dates to match their original schedule

๐Ÿ“ NOTE: This restores access for your subscribers, though they'll still need to update their payment information.

After Changing the Base Currency

  • Send follow-up communications to subscribers, reminding them to update their payment information

  • Consider providing step-by-step instructions on how to update payment details

  • Monitor subscription renewals closely during the transition period

  • Be prepared to offer additional support to members who have questions or other related issues

  • Subscribers must actively accept the new currency terms by updating their payment information

  • Depending on the billing date, the status of the subscribers may show as Overdue until they log in and re-enter their payment details

๐Ÿ“ NOTE: After changing currency, your financial analytics may be unstable for 1-2 months as the system adjusts to the new currency data.
