Linking a Roku Device to Your Roku Developer Account
Updated over a week ago

Now that the first part is done you have created your Roku Account, enrolled in the Developer Program and set up the Payment settings, and invited Uscreen to join your account and build the apps for you, there's only one more step missing: Link your Roku device to your Roku Developer account.

Since 2021 Roku started to require the Roku account owner to own a Roku device and link it to the Roku Developer Account.
We'll not be able to build apps on your account if there's no device linked.

Index:

In this guide, we will explain how to link a Roku device to your Roku developer account. By linking your device, you can also install and preview your Roku apps seamlessly. Let's get started!

Activate the Roku Device

  1. Connect the Roku device to your TV using the provided HDMI or composite cables.

  2. Power on the Roku device by plugging it into a power outlet or using the provided USB cable.

  3. Turn on your TV and switch to the correct input source where your Roku device is connected.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Roku device, including connecting it to your Wi-Fi network.

Validate Your Email Address

You will need to log in to the developer account and check the developer's email.

  1. On the Roku Device: Go to Home >Streaming Channels >Enter Developer Account Email
(If there's no option to enter email, go to Troubleshooting below.)

  2. Check your Email: Open the email from Roku & click the Activation Link.

  3. Sign-In to the Roku Developer Account & follow the steps on the screen.

Troubleshooting

  1. If you cannot enter an email your device might be already linked to an account.
You can check this by going to Home >Settings >System >About (check the email linked). Please note that your Roku device needs to be linked to your Roku Developer account`s email. If that's not the case, follow the steps below to unlink it:

  2. Unlink the device (there are two options):

    1. Unlink the device from the current account

      1. In the browser, sign In to the account currently linked to your device

      2. Click Unlink next to the device.

      3. Click unlink again to confirm

    2. Format your Roku device and restart the configuration

      1. In the Roku device, within the Settings menu use the arrow buttons on your remote to navigate and highlight the System option.

      2. Press the right arrow button to enter the System settings.

      3. Scroll down and select the Advanced System settings option.

      4. Within the Advanced system settings, locate and choose Factory reset.

      5. A warning message will appear, informing you that a factory reset will erase all data and settings on the Roku device.

      6. To proceed with the factory reset, confirm your selection.

      7. Once the reset is finished, you will see the initial setup screen as if you just unboxed the Roku device.

      8. Follow the instructions on the screen to set up your Roku device and link it to your Roku developer account's email

      9. Open the email received by Roku and click the activation link.
