Differences Between Legacy and New PayPal Integrations on Uscreen

Learn more about our new PayPal Integration and how it impacts your Legacy integration

Updated over a week ago

Uscreen has recently updated its PayPal integration, providing new and enhanced ways to manage payments and subscribers. This guide will help you understand the key differences between the legacy and new PayPal integrations, and answer some common questions you might have.

If you started using PayPal after July 1st, 2024, this article does not apply to you.

Legacy vs New PayPal Integration

Legacy PayPal Integration

The Legacy PayPal integration has been a reliable method for managing subscriber payments. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Payment Processing: Uscreen handled all PayPal transactions and distributed payouts to your bank account through bill.com.

  • Subscriber Management: Uscreen managed the subscriptions and payment details of all your subscribers.

New PayPal Integration

The new PayPal integration offers significant changes designed to give you more control over your payments. Key features include:

  • Direct Connection to PayPal: You can now connect your own PayPal Business account directly to Uscreen.

  • Direct Payment Deposits: Payments from new subscribers are deposited directly into your own PayPal account instantly, bypassing Uscreen.

  • Enhanced Control: You own the payments and manage your financial transactions more independently.

  • Improved Financial Management: No 2% handling fee and faster payments, with funds going directly to your PayPal account.

Moving Forward with your New PayPal Integration

For Existing Subscribers

  • Continued Payments: Subscribers using the legacy integration will continue making payments without any changes.

  • No Interruptions: These subscribers will not be forced to migrate or cancel their subscriptions.

  • Payout Continuity: Uscreen will continue to handle payouts for these legacy subscribers.

For New Subscribers

  • Direct Deposits: Payments from new subscribers will be directly deposited into your PayPal account.

  • Managing Churn: Over time, as legacy subscribers cancel or transition, you will see a shift towards more direct payments into your PayPal account.

Common Questions About the Transition

What happens if I don't connect my own PayPal account?

If you do not connect your own PayPal account via the new integration, PayPal will no longer be an option on your checkout page for new subscribers. All of your existing subscribers will remain active, and you will continue to collect payments from them without interruption. We will NOT be removing any existing subscribers from Uscreen PayPal.

Once I connect my own PayPal account, will my existing subscribers move over?

No. Once you connect your own PayPal account, your existing subscribers will continue to make their payments via the original legacy Uscreen PayPal integration. All of your new subscribers will make payments directly to your own PayPal account moving forward.

After connecting my own PayPal account, do I need to disconnect Uscreen PayPal?

No. Disconnecting the Uscreen PayPal option is blocked. If we disconnect you from Uscreen PayPal, all of your current subscribers who chose PayPal at checkout will no longer be processed and will be asked for a new payment method at the end of their current billing cycle.

Can I migrate my existing subscribers over to my own account?

Unfortunately, no. There is no ability to migrate your existing subscribers from Uscreen PayPal to your own PayPal account. Over time, as legacy subscribers churn, you will see an increase in subscribers paying directly to your PayPal account.

Why did Uscreen build this new integration?

We built this new integration to create a better experience for you! With the new integration:

  • No 2% Handling Fee: You no longer pay a handling fee.

  • Faster Payments: No more waiting 30 days for payment; PayPal handles payments directly.

  • More Control: Direct management of your financial transactions and reporting.

I’m not keen on setting up a PayPal Business Account. Can you suggest some other payment options?

Unfortunately, there’s no alternative. To connect your PayPal Business account to third-party integrations, you need to create a PayPal Business account. If you don’t connect your own account by our end-of-life date for Legacy, you won’t be able to accept new subscribers who pay with PayPal.

Will my existing members' payments now be sent to my own PayPal account?

No, your existing members' payments will still be processed via Uscreen PayPal, and you will continue to receive those payments through Uscreen via bill.com. Only new members will have their payments directly deposited into your PayPal account.

Can I use the new PayPal Integration without Stripe?

Yes! You can now accept PayPal as a primary payment provider and not utilize Stripe.

Summary

Understanding the differences between the legacy and new PayPal integrations on Uscreen is crucial for effectively managing your payments and subscribers. The new integration offers more control and direct access to your funds, while the legacy integration continues to provide a reliable method for managing existing subscribers.

By transitioning to the new PayPal integration, you can take advantage of these enhancements and streamline your financial operations.
