Google Play Console Account Verification
Google Play Console Account Verification

What You Need to Know and How to Proceed

Updated over 2 months ago

Overview

Google has introduced a new requirement for all Play Console developer account owners to verify their business identity, such as by providing legal business information, a DUNS number (for companies), and other relevant documentation. This initiative aims to enhance trust and transparency on the Google Play platform.

Failing to comply may result in account suspension and the unpublishing of apps from the Play Store!

Example:

Steps to Follow

  1. Log in to the Google Play Console:

    • Head to Google Play Console and log in with your developer account.

    • You should see prompts or notifications regarding verification requirements.

  2. Complete the Business Information Verification:

    • Follow the instructions to provide the required business or individual information.

    • Ensure all details are accurate, matching the information in your legal documents.

  3. Request a DUNS Number (if applicable):

    • Visit Dun & Bradstreet to request your DUNS number if needed.

    • Enter your business information and submit the application.

    • Once received, input the DUNS number into your Play Console account.

  4. Submit Verification Documents:

    • Upload any required legal documents (government ID for individuals or business registration documents for companies).

    • Google will review the information, and you will receive updates on the status of your verification.

  5. Check for Updates:

    • Check for notifications from the Play Console regarding the verification process. If additional information is needed, respond promptly to avoid delays.

  6. Act Fast:

    • Google has imposed strict deadlines, and failure to comply may result in your apps being unpublished and your developer account suspended.

Key Requirements

  1. Legal Business Information: Google requires the verification of the developer account owner’s business information. If your account is listed as a business, you’ll need to provide:

    • Legal business name

    • Registered business address

    • Tax Identification Number (TIN) or other relevant documentation

    • DUNS (Data Universal Numbering System) number (for businesses in certain regions)

  2. DUNS Number: A DUNS number is a unique nine-digit identifier used to verify the legitimacy of your business. Google requires this for some developers to confirm their business status.

    • You can request a DUNS number through Dun & Bradstreet. This process may take some time, so we recommend starting it immediately if you don't already have one.

  3. Identity Verification for Individuals and Businesses: Whether your account is personal or business, identity verification is required. You’ll need to:

    • Provide government-issued identification (for individuals)

    • Upload a business registration document (for companies)

    • Ensure that your contact information, including email and phone number, is current and verified in the Play Console.

Why Is This Important?

Google’s new verification requirements are part of a broader effort to ensure that only legitimate apps and developers are operating on the Play Store. By complying, you:

  • Avoid suspension of your developer account.

  • Prevent your apps from being removed from the Play Store.

  • Build greater trust with users and improve your app’s reputation.

Non-compliance with the verification process by the deadline set by Google may lead to your account being suspended and apps being unpublished.
