Tags for Member Management

Organize, segment, and engage your members with this powerful tagging feature

Tags are a powerful new way to segment your audience members inside Uscreen.

With Tags, you can optionally label members based on their behavior, status, or your own business needs.

Tags are part of a broader vision to use Uscreen as a Member CRM, reducing your need for external tools like Mailchimp, Zapier, or Hubspot.

Why Tags Matter

At Uscreen, we want to help you grow a successful business by nurturing leads, onboarding new members, retaining your loyal subscribers, and winning back churned members.

Tags are a powerful tool to help you achieve these goals! 🫡

With Tags, you can:

  • Organize and label members based on their behavior, interests, or business needs (e.g., "VIPs," "At Risk," "Onboarding")

  • Filter email broadcasts to send targeted, personalized communications

  • Power marketing automations by adding, removing, or filtering by tags

  • Segment your audience for more strategic marketing and retention efforts

  • Track the performance of different member groups in your analytics

  • Reduce dependency on external CRM and marketing tools

ℹ️ INFO: Tags help you move beyond filters, statuses, and segments, giving you greater control over your audience.

Creating Tags

There are two ways to create tags in Uscreen.

ℹ️ INFO: Tags are lowercase and only contain letters, numbers, and dashes (no spaces). For instance, "VIP Member" would be "vip-member" as a tag. As you type a new tag name, you'll see a live preview of exactly how it will be saved, so there are no surprises.

Option 1. Using the Tags Management Page

Navigate to People > Tags

  • Create new tags

  • Edit existing tag names

  • Delete tags you no longer need

  • View how many members are assigned to each tag

💡 TIP: The People > Tags search now finds existing tags even if you type them with spaces or capital letters. For example, searching "VIP Member" will match the tag "vip-member." If nothing matches, you'll be prompted to create a new tag with the correct formatting.

Apply Tags to Existing Members

When creating a new tag, you can apply it to existing members in bulk by targeting an Audience:

  1. Navigate to People > Tags

  2. Click Create Tag to add a new tag

  3. Tick the Apply to Audience checkbox

  4. Choose the Audience you want to apply the tag to

  5. Decide whether to enable Enroll Audience members in Automations

    • This determines whether adding the tag can trigger Automations (such as a "Tag Added" trigger) for the affected members

💡 TIP: Because the tag stays linked to the Audience, this isn't a one-time snapshot. New members who match the Audience later will automatically receive the tag too, keeping your tagging current without repeating the setup.

Enrolling Tagged Members in Automations

When you apply a tag to an Audience, you can also choose whether that action should enroll Audience members in Automations (for example, an Automation set to trigger on "Tag Added").

This is off by default and should be enabled deliberately:

  • Enabled: members who receive the tag, now or in the future, as they match the Audience, will trigger applicable Automations

  • Disabled: the tag is applied normally, but members will not be enrolled in any Automations as a result

ℹ️ INFO: Since this can affect a large number of members at once, review your Automation triggers before enabling it. See Automations Overview for how tag-based triggers work.

⚠️ WARNING: Enabling Enroll Audience members in Automations can activate Automations like "Tag Added" for every affected member at once. If you're bulk-tagging a large Audience, consider leaving this off unless you specifically want that Automation enrollment to happen.

Option 2. Creating Tags on the Fly

You can also create tags directly when:

  • Setting up email broadcasts

  • Creating automations

💡 TIP: This allows you to quickly create tags as you need them without leaving your workflow.

How to Use Tags

The new and revamped version of the People page has now been released, giving you the ability to manage tags directly from member profiles.

Adding or Removing Tags Manually

  1. Navigate to People

  2. Find and click the member you want to tag

  3. Under the About card, find the Tags section

  4. Click the ➕ icon to open the Tags modal to assign, remove, or create new tags

  5. Click Done to close the dialog

  6. Click Save Changes

Filter by Tags in Email Broadcast

🔗 Learn more about Email Broadcasts

Send targeted emails with tags (alongside other filters, statuses, and segments) to specific audiences with email broadcasts. This requires you to opt in to the new email broadcast. It is not available in the old classic email tool.

Apply Tags via Automations

🔗 Learn more about Automations

Most of your tagging will happen automatically. Using the new Automations, you can:

  • Add a tag when a member joins a sequence

  • Remove a tag when a sequence ends

  • Filter by tag to send targeted messages

💡 TIP: A common pattern is the "tag sandwich", where you add a tag at the start of an automation, then remove it when finished, keeping your audience neatly organized.

FAQs

Can I add tags in bulk?

Yes! When creating a new tag, use the Apply to audience option to apply the tag to all members of one or more selected Audiences, including future members who come to match. You'll also choose whether this should enroll Audience members in Automations, so you control whether tagging a large group triggers automation enrollment. Bulk tagging via CSV import is also available for Plus stores. Reach out to our Support team to discuss the details.

Who can see the Tags feature?

The early release of the Tags feature is now visible to users who have the new Email Broadcast enabled.

Will Tags work with the old email system?

No, tag-based filtering for emails is only available and is designed for the new email broadcast system.

How many tags can I create?

There is no set limit on the number of tags you can create, but we recommend keeping your tagging system manageable for practical use.

Can I use Tags to segment my community?

No, but tag-based community filtering is a potential future consideration.

What does the tag name preview show?

As you type a new tag name, Uscreen shows a live preview of exactly how it will be saved, lowercase, with spaces converted to dashes and unsupported characters removed. For example, typing "New! VIP Member" previews as "new-vip-member."
