Samsung TV DRM: Setting Up Partner-Level Distribution

Samsung's Partner-Level Distribution Certificate for enabling DRM playback on your Samsung TV app

To enable DRM-protected video playback on Samsung Smart TVs, your app needs to be authorized through Samsung's partner distribution system.

This is a Samsung-side requirement that you'll need to complete directly in your Samsung developer account, and it's separate from the DRM setup on Uscreen.

Prerequisites

Before getting started, make sure:

  • DRM is already enabled on your Uscreen store

  • You have access to your Samsung Apps TV Seller Office account

  • Your Samsung TV app has already been submitted at least once

    • Partnership status can only be applied for after your app exists in the system

Applying for a Partner-Level Distribution Certificate

  1. Navigate to the Membership section

  2. Locate the Partnership menu item

  3. Fill in the partnership form

    • In your description, explain that you need a Partnership status in order to play DRM-protected content in your app

  4. Submit the form and wait for Samsung's approval

  5. Once approved, submit an app update request through Uscreen so the team can resubmit your Samsung TV app with the updated certificate

💡 TIP: Apply for Partnership status as early as possible, as Samsung reviews applications manually, and approval times vary. If you have a planned launch date, don't leave this to the last minute.

FAQs

How long does Samsung's partnership approval take?

Approval times vary and are determined entirely by Samsung. Uscreen has no visibility into or control over the review timeline. We recommend applying well in advance, especially if you have a planned launch or update date.

Do I need to do this if I already have a Samsung TV app?

Yes, if your store has DRM enabled and your Samsung TV app was submitted before Partnership status was granted, you'll need to apply for the certificate and resubmit the app for DRM playback to work correctly.

What should I write in the partnership form description?

Keep it clear and concise, and explain that you need Partnership status specifically to enable DRM-protected content playback in your app. Samsung just needs to understand the reason for the request.

My partnership application was approved. What's next?

Submit an app update request through Uscreen so the team can resubmit your Samsung TV app with the updated certificate. 🔗 Learn more about Requesting an App Update

What if my application is rejected?

Reach out to your Customer Success Manager or App Setup Specialist, and they can advise on next steps and help you reapply if needed.
