Automation Actions

Emails, wait steps, and tag management; the actual steps members go through once they're enrolled

Actions are the steps that make up your automation sequence: the emails members receive, the delays between them, and the tags or product access changes applied along the way.

ℹ️ INFO: This article covers every available action in detail.

Available Actions

Build your action sequence from the steps below.

Send Email

Deliver a personalized email using Uscreen's visual builder, the same block-based editor used in Email Broadcasts.

Available blocks include Text, Image, Button, Spacer, and HTML, plus personalization tokens for member data.

Best Practices

  • Keep subject lines clear and compelling

  • Use personalization tokens for member names

  • Include clear calls-to-action

  • Test emails before publishing

ℹ️ INFO: The email builder in Automations supports the HTML Block, giving you full control over custom HTML and CSS layouts, the same capability available in Email Broadcasts. Access requires a Premium plan.

Inserting Personalized Coupon Code Variables

You can insert a personalized coupon code variable directly into the email body via the Format menu in the text editor.

  1. Click into a Text Block in the email editor

  2. Right-click or highlight text to open the Format menu

  3. Select Coupons and choose a coupon from the dropdown

The variable is inserted in this format: {{personalized_coupon.COUPON_CODE}}.

When the email is sent, each recipient gets a unique, personalized version of the code, for example, SUMMER-KR59T1JG.

📝 NOTE: Coupon variables can only be used in the email body. They are not supported in the subject line. If no personalized coupons exist in your store, the dropdown option will not show.

Wait

Add time delays between steps (minutes, hours, or days).

Common Wait Periods

  • 1-3 days between onboarding emails

  • 7 days before win-back attempts

  • Wait period equivalent to trial days for win-back sequences

Example: Wait 3 days before sending a follow-up email.

ℹ️ INFO: Wait steps are effective for creating drip campaigns and giving members time to take action.

Wait Until

Similar to the Wait action, but instead of pausing for a specific amount of time, this pauses your automation until a specific event occurs, relative to each customer.

  • Subscription Start: your automation will wait until the date the subscription started. Great for celebrating anniversaries.

  • Trial End: your automation will wait to proceed until the member has exited their trial. Great for ongoing onboarding sequences.

  • Subscription Renewal: your automation will wait until the next subscription renewal occurs. Great for reminders and nudges after payment.

All events may be offset in days using the timing options. This allows you to fire events before or after the subscription events have occurred.

For instance, if you wanted your automation to Wait Until 1 Day Before the Trial Ends, you would enter 1 in the Days field and select Before.

This action is a powerful way to communicate with your members at exactly the right moment.

📝 NOTE: A member only continues past a Wait Until step if the selected date applies to them. If the date cannot be determined, for example, Trial End for a member who is not on a trial, or any option for a member without an active subscription, the member exits the automation at this step.

Add Tag

Apply one or more tags to track member journeys or segment audiences. You can select multiple tags at once instead of adding them one at a time.

When to Use

  • Track users passing through automations

  • Create behavioral segments

  • Label converted leads for easier tracking

  • Trigger other automations based on tags

You can now select multiple tags at once instead of adding them one at a time.

💡 TIP: This is the mechanism behind Automation Chaining. An Add Tag action here can serve as the Tag Added to User trigger for a separate automation. See [Automation Triggers & Goals] for details.

Remove Tag

Remove one or more tags when members progress through your workflow. You can select multiple tags at once to remove them simultaneously.

When to Use

  • Clean up temporary workflow tags

  • Move members between segments

  • Reset behavioral markers

Date Range

The Date Range action lets you specify an absolute date range during which the automation should run.

Unlike the Wait action, which uses a relative delay, the Date Range action uses calendar dates.

  • Set a Start Date and End Date to define the active window

  • If the current date is outside the range, the automation pauses

  • Useful for time-limited campaigns, seasonal promotions, or drip sequences that should only run during a specific period

💡 TIP: Use the Date Range action when you want an automation to run only during a specific calendar window. For example, if you sell a bundle with a 2-month purchase window, you can use a Date Range action to start a drip campaign for everyone beginning in Month 3.

Add Product

The Add Product action allows you to assign ownership to a subscription, a bundle, or both.

This is useful for welcoming new leads, rewarding active members, or winning back churning customers.

  • Select a Subscription Product: Users can only have one subscription at a time

  • OR Assign Bundle Ownership: Users can be assigned multiple bundles at a time

💡 TIP: Be mindful of your audience and filter members before assigning access using Automations.

FAQs

Can I use Add Product to assign access to any product type?

The Add Product action supports subscriptions and bundles only. Assigning a subscription will replace any existing subscription the member has, since customers can only hold one subscription at a time. Bundles work differently, since a member can be assigned multiple bundles simultaneously.
