You can offer your customers a fast and convenient checkout experience via digital wallets by enabling Apple Pay and Google Pay via Stripe.

This will allow customers to quickly complete purchases using saved card details from their Apple or Google accounts, without needing to manually enter payment details.

How to Enable Google Pay and Apple Pay

Enabling Google Pay and Apple Pay during checkout is simple.

To enable these payment options, simply ensure you have connected Stripe as a payment gateway within your store's Checkout Settings, and find the options in the Payment Method page in Stripe.

ℹ️ INFO: With Stripe connected as a payment gateway in your store, users who meet the requirements will automatically see the option for Google Pay or Apple Pay at checkout, along with any other payment gateways you have enabled.


Requirements for Google Pay & Apple Pay

Once you have ensured Stripe is enabled and working, then Google Pay and Apple Pay will automatically appear as checkout options, granted the user's device falls under the following conditions:

Google Pay

  • Available on Google Chrome (version 61 or newer)

  • The customer must have a saved payment method in their Google account

  • The Google Pay option will appear for one-time purchases and subscriptions

Apple Pay

  • Available on Safari on Apple devices

  • The customer must have a saved payment method in their Apple Wallet

  • The Apple Pay option will appear for one-time purchases and subscriptions

📝 NOTE: Both Apple Pay and Google Pay are only available when checking out via a web browser. They are not supported in mobile or TV apps.


What Your Members See

When the above conditions are met, customers checking out will see the Google Pay or Apple Pay payment option appear alongside any other applicable payment methods available via Stripe Billing.

⚠️ WARNING: Digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay will NOT appear as payment methods on any subscription that has the Subscription Upsell feature enabled. This is due to technical limitations with these digital wallets.

How You Receive Payouts

Payments made via Apple Pay and Google Pay are processed through Stripe just like standard card payments, so it will have no impact on your regular Stripe payout schedule.

💡 TIP: Checking out via Google Pay or Apple Pay will simply reduce friction for users and allow for a more convenient and seamless checkout option.


FAQs

Is it possible to use Apple Pay or Google Pay without connecting Stripe?

No, these payment methods are currently only available through Stripe and are not available through PayPal.

Why can't I see Google Pay or Apple Pay after enabling Stripe on my store?

Please ensure that you meet the other requirements, including using the appropriate web browser (Chrome or Safari) and having a saved payment method in Google Pay/Apple Pay before checkout.

Will these checkout options work on my apps?

No. Both Apple Pay and Google Pay are only available when checking out via a web browser.
