Allow your members to start earning free months for referring friends and family

The Refer a Friend program provides your users with a unique referral link they can share with friends and family. When someone uses that link to sign up and pays their first invoice, the referrer receives 30 free subscription days as a reward.

ℹ️ INFO: This powerful feature helps grow your membership community through word-of-mouth marketing while rewarding your existing members for bringing in new subscribers.


Referral Process

When enabled, eligible users will see a Refer a Friend tab in their User Dashboard. From there, they can:

  • Access their unique referral link

  • Use the invite feature to send their referral link directly to friends and family

  • Track the history and status of their referrals

The referral process follows these steps:

  1. Your user shares their custom referral link with friends

  2. When someone clicks the link, a cookie is stored in their browser for 30 days

  3. If they sign up and pay their first invoice within that period, the referral is tracked

  4. The referrer automatically receives 30 free subscription days added to their account

📝 NOTE: For users to be eligible to access and use the Refer a Friend feature, they must have an active or trial subscription purchased through your website. The feature is not available to users who subscribed through the mobile app.


Set Up the Automation

  1. Navigate to Marketing

  2. Choose Enabled

  3. Select your desired Referral Link Page

  4. Click Save

You can preview how the Referral Link Page would look by clicking the What it will look like? link.

📝 NOTE: The referral link includes a user-specific variable in the URL that enables tracking. For the referral to work, the referred person must use this specific link when signing up.


User Experience

When users visit their User Dashboard, they'll see a Refer a Friend tab where they can access their referral tools.

They have three options for sharing their referral link:

  • Copy and share their personal referral link

    • Users can copy the link and share it however they prefer

  • Share on social media

    • Direct sharing to popular social platforms

  • Invite by email

    • Send invitations directly through the provided form

Referral History

Users can monitor the progress of their referrals directly from their Refer a Friend tab. By scrolling down, they'll see a Referral History section that displays all their referrals with status indicators.

  • Sent

    • the referral link has been shared but not yet used

  • Signed Up

    • the referred user has created an account using the link

  • Success

    • the referred friend has paid their first invoice, and the reward has been applied to the referrer's account

This transparent tracking system allows users to see which of their referrals have converted and which might need a follow-up reminder.

💡 TIP: Encourage your users to share their referral links on social media or via direct messages for the highest conversion rates. Personal recommendations from friends are powerful motivators for new sign-ups.


Track the Performance

Marketing: Quick Stats

Access basic metrics

  1. Navigate to Marketing

  2. Select Refer a Friend, and view:

    • New customers gained (through referrals)

    • Revenue generated from referred customers

Analytics: Detailed Metrics

For more comprehensive data

  1. Navigate to Analytics > Marketing

This section provides detailed metrics, including:

  • Leads

    • number of potential customers referred by members

  • Sign Ups

    • number of leads who created accounts after being referred

    • Conversion rate: calculated as sign ups / leads

  • New Members

    • number of leads who subscribed to a plan

    • Conversion rate: calculated as new members / leads

  • Revenue Earned

    • total revenue generated from referral subscriptions

  • Members Referring Friends

    • number of members who have shared referral links

  • Members Rewarded

    • number of members who received rewards for successful referrals

  • Referrals by member

FAQs

When are the 30 free days added to a user's account?

The reward is added after the referred friend pays their first invoice. For subscriptions with free trials, the reward is added after the trial period ends and the first payment is made.

Is there a limit to how many friends someone can refer?

There's no limit to how many friends a user can refer. They'll receive 30 free subscription days for each successful referral.

Do referral links work for mobile or TV apps?

No, referral links only work when the referred person signs up via the web. The feature doesn't work for mobile or TV app sign-ups.

What happens if a user says they referred someone, but the referral isn't tracked?

Refer a Friend works via stored cookies. If someone clicks a referral link on one device but signs up on another without using the link again, the referral connection cannot be made. Both the click and the sign-up must happen using the same browser session or within the 30-day cookie window.

What happens if I disable Refer a Friend after having it active?

All existing referrals will remain intact, but future referrals will not be possible. The Refer a Friend tab will be hidden from user Dashboards.

Can users on annual plans receive referral rewards?

Yes, users on all plan durations can receive referral rewards. The 30 free days are added regardless of which subscription the referrer has.

If a referrer cancels their subscription and then their friend signs up, will they still get the reward?

No, the referrer must have an active subscription at the time the referred friend pays their first invoice to receive the reward.
