Video Pricing & Access

Video monetization and access options

Updated today

You can decide how to make each video available to your audience. Whether it is free for all users or gated and requires payment.

📝 NOTE: The pricing and access set for individual videos are independent of the pricing and access of collections, where they are also included. Collections and videos are considered separate content.

Gated Access

By default, videos are set to Gated, which means that users will need to log in to access the video.

If a video is set as Gated access, you have various options to require payment:

1. Subscription

Assign the content to one or more subscriptions to grant paid access and require recurring payment.

This provides your customers with different options to become a member.

💡 TIP: Use bulk assignment to quickly add multiple videos to a subscription plan. Go to Content > Videos, select multiple videos, click Add to plans, choose your subscription plan, and click Add to save your changes.

2. Rental Price

Offer the content for rental at a specified duration. Once purchased, the rental duration starts immediately, and access will automatically be removed at the end of the rental period.

ℹ️ INFO: The 2-week rental duration is now available, giving you more flexibility to offer mid-length rental periods between 1 week and 1 month. This is perfect for content like workshops, short courses, or event replays.

3. One-time Purchase Price

Offer the content as a one-time purchase. Once purchased, the customer will have lifetime access to that specific content unless it gets deleted.

4. Bundles

Assign the content to one or more bundles to grant paid access as a one-time payment.

🔗 Learn more about Bundles

ℹ️ INFO: A customer may purchase as many bundles and/or individual content as they require, and these purchases can coexist with a subscription access or other types.

📝 NOTE: For each new piece of content you upload, it is necessary to select and set the pricing and access options manually. The pricing and access options are not automatically applied to the new content.

Free for All Users

If you decide to make the video free, you can set the Access option to Free for all users.

Customers will be able to watch the video on your storefront without needing to log in or provide payment information.

💡 TIP: You can also offer content for free while requiring customers to create an account by creating a Freebie Bundle and sharing the direct link. This allows you to easily track the number of customers who gained free access.

Allow Downloading

You can allow your members to download your videos. You can enable this under Advanced Settings.

⚠️ WARNING: This option allows members to download an MP4 copy of your video and save it to their local storage. We strongly advise against allowing video downloads, as they can increase your churn rate and reduce your revenue.

FAQs

How do I set pricing for multiple videos at once?

You can bulk assign videos to subscription plans by going to Content > Videos, selecting multiple videos, clicking Add to plans, choosing your subscription plan, and clicking Add. However, rental prices and one-time purchase prices must be set individually for each video.

What happens if I don't set any pricing options?

If you publish a video, set it to Gated but don't select any pricing options (no member subscription, no rental, no one-time price, no bundle), then your paying members won't be able to watch it. The video can be shown in your catalog, but when someone opens it, they'll hit a "no access" state (dark player / no way to purchase or unlock it).

Can I offer the same video through multiple pricing options?

Yes! You can assign a video to subscription plans, set rental pricing, set a one-time purchase price, and include it in bundles all at the same time. Customers can choose which option works best for them.

If a video is in a collection, do I still need to set pricing on the video itself?

Yes. The pricing and access set for individual videos are independent of the pricing and access of collections. Collections and videos are considered separate content. Collection access and video access are separate. Assigning a collection to a plan doesn't automatically grant access to the videos in its playlist.

How do I make a video "essentially private" so only specific people can access it?

Set the video to Gated access, unassign all categories (to keep it hidden from the Catalog), and disable all pricing options (so there's no way to buy/unlock from the catalog). Then grant access by putting the video(s) into a bundle that's only accessible via a link (your private/link-only bundle). With that setup, members may still see the video tile in the catalog, but they won't be able to play or purchase it unless you grant access via the bundle.

Can I change pricing after a video is already published?

Yes, you can update pricing and access options at any time. Changes will apply to new purchases, but existing customer access remains unchanged unless you manually revoke it.
