Collection Pricing & Access

Collection monetization and access options

Updated today

You can decide how to make each collection available to your audience. Whether it is free for all users or gated and requires payment.

๐Ÿ“ NOTE: The pricing and access set for a collection are independent of the pricing and access of the individual videos part of the collection playlist. Collections and videos are considered separate content.

Gated Access

By default, collections are set to Gated, which means that users will need to log in to access the collection.

If a collection is set as Gated access, you have various options to require payment:

1. Subscription

Assign the content to one or more subscriptions to grant paid access and require recurring payment. This provides your customers with different options to become a member.

๐Ÿ“ NOTE: If you set the collection to a plan, people who are on that plan can access the collection and all the videos inside it, but the videos themselves are still separate, so they won't automatically become "plan-only" on their own. If you want the individual videos to also require the plan (so they can't be bought separately), you'd need to set each video's access to the same plan, too.

2. Rental Price

Offer the content for rental at a specified duration. Once purchased, the rental duration starts immediately, and access will automatically be removed at the end of the rental period.

โ„น๏ธ INFO: The 2-week rental duration is now available, giving you more flexibility to offer mid-length rental periods between 1 week and 1 month. This is perfect for content like workshops, short courses, or event replays.

3. One-time Purchase Price

Offer the content as a one-time purchase. Once purchased, the customer will have lifetime access to that specific content unless it gets deleted.

4. Bundles

Assign the content to one or more bundles to grant paid access as a one-time payment.

โ„น๏ธ INFO: A customer may purchase as many bundles and/or individual content as they require, and these purchases can coexist with a subscription access or other types.

๐Ÿ“ NOTE: For each new collection you create, it is necessary to select and set the pricing and access options manually. The pricing and access options are not automatically applied to the new content.

Free for All Users

If you decide to make the collection free, you can set the Access option to Free for all users.

Customers will be able to watch the collection on your storefront without needing to log in or provide payment information.

๐Ÿ’ก TIP: You can also offer content for free while requiring customers to create an account by creating a Freebie Bundle and sharing the direct link. This allows you to easily track the number of customers who gained free access.

FAQs

What happens if I don't set any pricing options for a collection?

If you don't assign any pricing options, the collection will be visible in your catalog, but customers won't be able to purchase it or access its contents. They'll see a "no access" state when they try to open it.

Can I offer the same collection through multiple pricing options?

Yes! You can assign a collection to subscription plans, set rental pricing, set a one-time purchase price, and include it in bundles all at the same time. Customers can choose which option works best for them.

If I assign a collection to a subscription plan, do the videos inside automatically get access too?

If the collection is assigned to the monthly plan but the individual videos inside it are not, your members will be able to access the videos from the Collection Playlist, but they won't be able to play the videos on their individual program pages (they'll still be paywalled). That's because collection access and video access are separate. Assigning a collection to a plan doesn't automatically grant access to the videos in its playlist.

Should I make a collection ungated to offer it in a free bundle?

Not necessarily. You don't need to make the collection ungated for your free bundle. You can keep the collection gated and still include it in a free bundle. Gated collections in free bundles require users to create an account to access the content, which is great for lead generation. If you make it ungated (free for all users), anyone can access it without creating an account, which defeats the purpose of using it for lead generation.

Can I use collections to create courses?

Yes! Collections are perfect for creating structured courses with sequential viewing. You can organize content with dividers like "Week 1" to "Week 6" and offer multiple access models (one-time purchase, rental, subscriptions, and/or bundles). ๐Ÿ”— Learn more about Creating Courses on Uscreen Using Collections
